Context
Parrot is building what co-founder Amir Hanna calls "the TikTok for language learning." We asked him how they're approaching monetization on the web, and what he'd tell founders who haven't tried app-to-web yet.
Parrot tried both web funnels and app-to-web. One lifted proceeds 30 to 45%.
Parrot has run both standalone web funnels and app-to-web funnels, where users in the app go to a web checkout to pay. Amir called app-to-web "a really cool game changer."
By switching to the web, Parrot’s checkout is no longer subject to the 30% App Store fee, so they get to keep more of every sale. According to Amir, proceeds are up "in the ballpark of 30 to 45%."
Hesitant to switch? Start gradually and scale from there.
Amir's advice is simple: "Try it out." He added that it's "totally vanilla from Apple's perspective," and with the right team behind your flow, it stays that way.

You don’t have to switch everyone over at once. Parrot sent 90% of users through their existing flow and 10% to web checkout. Once the numbers held up, they moved to a 50-50 split. "It turned out to be awesome."
What other apps are seeing.
Parrot’s results aren’t just a happy coincidence. They’re part of a growing list of app-to-web wins, across categories, from health and fitness to productivity. In five recent experiments, every app saw proceeds per user go up anywhere from 31% to 56%.

What are you building?
My name is Amir Hanna, I'm the co-founder of Parrot, and we are building the TikTok for language learning. It's the No. 1 way to learn languages.
How are you approaching monetization on the web?
We have a few different approaches. We have web funnels that we've experimented with. We've also done app-to-web funnels, which has been a really cool game changer. We've seen some pretty cool increase in proceeds as well from that, through checkouts in the web from the app, which have been awesome. Big proceeds left for us.
What are those proceeds looking like?
It's in the ballpark of 30 to 45% increase.
If you had to give any advice to app founders who may be on the fence about app-to-web, what would you tell them?
Try it out. There's no downside to trying it out. It's totally vanilla from Apple's perspective. I think you'd be doing yourself a disservice for not at least giving it a shot. With a few hundred users, maybe split test it if you're really concerned. 90% of your users can see your current flow, and maybe funnel 10% to the checkout. That's what we did, just to make sure it's all good. And yeah, I think after like a 50-50 split, it turned out to be awesome.
